MONEY WELL SPENT
By John L. Connors
The hired killer sat across the desk, gazing at his intended target in the photograph that I had just handed to him. After a long moment, he leaned back, regarding me with an icy stare. “Don’t toy with me.”
“I wouldn’t dare.” I pushed the envelope of cash toward him. “It’s all there,” I said. “Count it.”
His fingers drummed a slow beat upon the desk. He glanced at the photograph again. “You’ve gone gray.”
I looked at him. “Is there a problem here?”
He stuffed the envelope in his jacket pocket. “No,” the killer said. “No problem at all.”
